The Social Media Secret - Stop Trying To Copy What Everyone Else Is Doing

STOP TRYING TO COPY WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING

Your organization is unique meaning hopefully you stand out from the crowd... You have to do the same online.

I know this is going to sound VERY simple... but your online strategy including Web Sites, Social media, etc all can be boiled down to a simple truth!

Find out what works, do more of that... what doesn't work, do less of that.

It's kinda the old door hitting you in the head routine... usually you stop doing that the first time you get smacked.

But there are those who keep doing the same thing hoping things somehow change.

I still stress that VIDEO is king right now. Depending on your business OTT apps are also huge if you have the right business I.E. radio and TV. But your content better be unique!

For example... on one project I am working on, views have increased thousands of percent year over year from where they were just by changing strategy a bit and doing more of what works!

Now the trick is finding out what works. That is the artistic part of this and usually comes naturally if you take my advice.

It is what kiddos have learned naturally with social media – unfortunately or fortunately – depending on what they're doing.

Here's another axiom and it takes a bit of objectivity... you have to be able to look at content you post and ask yourself, "Would I stop and look at that if I was scrolling or surfing my favorite site or social stream?"

If you can't then ask someone you trust.

I've seen this a lot... especially in Media... The powers that be want their teams to post COMMERCIALS for appointment viewing. That is Soooo long gone. All you are going to do is piss someone off. People are not on their device NOW because they want to find something to watch or learn four hours from now.

There is so much content out there and people's TIME is precious. If you waste their time once, they will be hard pressed to come back let alone subscribe to your content.

I use the restaurant example. You spend all of your time effort and energy building and marketing your NEW restaurant and you're ready for the big day! You open the doors and the food tastes like ASS!

Odds are... word will spread and you're out of business in weeks.

Social is the same... The last thing you need is someone clicking 'don't show me more of this' because that's what the algorithm will pick up on.

I get it... the hard part can be finding the creativity or creative people who can execute the – QUOTE – simple plan.

"Find out what works and do more of that..." may be short and sweet... but the hard part is coming up with the unique ideas and talent to pull it off.

OK... I am putting together a seminar soon that will address a lot of these challenges. I'm also building a one stop shop web site that will also host a lot of this content and let you know how I can help you should you so desire!
